As the clock struck midnight and welcomed 2025, the team at He Spoke Style (HSS) delved into one of our most – cherished annual rituals: sharing our New Year’s style resolutions. While our other beloved tradition is set to grace your screens tomorrow (so stay tuned!), today, we’re laying bare our sartorial aspirations for the year ahead.
Our editors, ever – eager to inspire, have once again outdone themselves. Dive in to discover the trends we’ll be embracing and perhaps find the spark for your own style resolution.
Brian Sacawa: Embracing the Power of Simplicity
For nearly 12 years, I’ve been sharing my style journey online. In that time, I’ve often grappled with the urge to constantly don something new. I feel a responsibility to offer you fresh inspiration, but I realize this mindset is neither practical nor true to the essence of He Spoke Style. Our ethos has always been about curating a classic, timeless, and versatile menswear wardrobe.
So, in 2025, my resolution is to practice what I preach. I’ll strive to keep my outfits simple, or even simpler. No more overthinking when putting together an ensemble. I won’t fret about repeating a suit or a sport coat. Instead, I’ll remind myself that a simple, classic style is always the most impactful.
Mark Remillard: Dressing to the Nines in Black Tie
My New Year’s style resolution is all about seeking out and seizing more opportunities to don black tie attire. Recently, I attended the Met Opera in New York for my anniversary, and it was an unforgettable experience. Not only was the performance magical, but it was also a chance to break out a proper tuxedo and feel like a million bucks.
This resolution has a two – fold aspect. First, I need to acquire a tuxedo since I currently don’t own one. Then, I aim to make the most of it throughout the year, attending events where I can showcase this elegant look.
John – Paul Stuthridge: Opting for Roomy and Relaxed
Last year, I resolved to “buy less but better,” and I’m continuing that spirit into 2025 with a new resolution: to embrace bigger fits. The wider, more relaxed silhouette is in vogue, but it’s always been a bit of a struggle for me. I’ve always favored a slimmer fit to accentuate my figure.
However, this year, I noticed that what looked good in the mirror often seemed off in photos. I’m tired of feeling constricted in my clothes. So, in the new year, I’m looking forward to more classic, roomier fits that offer both comfort and style.
Drew Chambers: Shoe Shopping with a Conscience
I have a bit of a shoe obsession. I own far too many pairs, and that’s why I’m implementing a “two out and one in” rule for 2025. If I’m tempted to buy a new pair of shoes (and right now, I’m eyeing the hiker from 3sixteen and the cool leopard print del toro shoes), I’ll make sure to donate at least two pairs that I rarely wear. This way, I can indulge my passion while also keeping my shoe collection in check.
Ponzio Oliverio: The Dreaded Closet Clean – Out
My sartorial resolution for the New Year is long overdue and leans more towards practicality than style. It’s the dreaded task of going through my closet and purging items I no longer wear.
I’m not a hoarder, nor do I hold onto clothes in the hope that they’ll come back into fashion. It’s mostly about sentimentality. It’s hard to part with a tie inherited from my late father, even though our neck sizes differ and I can’t wear it. I’m not sure why clothes hold such a special place in my heart, but it’s time to face this task.
David Reardon: Finding Balance in Fatherhood and Style
As a father of two young children entering my forties in 2025, my style resolution is about striking a balance. I want to continue to dress stylishly and thoughtfully, but I also need to accept that my outfits won’t always be perfect. They’ll likely be wrinkled, stained, or both. They may not be as innovative as they were before I became a dad, when I had more time and money. And some of my favorite pieces, bought before my “Dad” days, may no longer fit due to an aging metabolism and less time at the gym.
So, while I’ll always put effort into dressing well out of respect for others and myself, I hope to give myself some grace in 2025. I’ll remind myself that the effort (the caring) is just as important as the final polished look.
Tony Gorga: Wearing the ‘Nice Stuff’
These days, since I mostly work from home and am busy parenting a one – year – old, I often find reasons not to wear my nicer clothes. I don’t want to risk staining my cashmere turtleneck or scratching my Reverso on the changing table.
But my style resolution for 2025 is simple: to wear and enjoy the “nice” pieces I’ve painstakingly acquired. I won’t wait for a “special day.” Instead, I’ll wear them because it’s today, and each day is a chance to look and feel my best.
